This was the beginning of my soon-to-become-acute awareness that the girl cannot take a hint. Of any kind. Does she zip on home like a kid should when they've been invited to leave? No. She says, "Oh, my mom knows where I am. She said it was fine." Then she points across the street and says, "We just live right over there."

[动作描写]

短语 take a hint/ take the hint that... ，表示“领会暗示”，其中可数名词hint，意思就是“暗示、示意”，读作[hɪnt]。后面如跟that同位语从句，则用来说明“暗示”的内容具体为何。

 

例： ① Don't worry, I can take a hint. I won't try to hang out with you anymore. 你放心，我看得懂暗示。我不会再邀你一起出去玩了。 ② I think you need to take the hint and accept the fact that he has no interest in dating you. 我认为你得领会他的暗示并接受这个事实——他并不想跟你约会。 对应“给出暗示(...)”，则是give/ drop a hint (that...)。 如果暗示太过强烈，而几乎成明示，加表示“明确的、明显的”形容词broad即可，即give/ drop a broad hint (that...)；而如果暗示太含蓄，隐隐暗示，也一样，在hint前面加表示的形容词subtle，即give/ drop a subtle hint (that...)。 例： ① He gave a broad hint that he was thinking of retiring. 他几乎明示他正在考虑退休。 ②  Mary dropped a subtle hint that she wanted a new ring for her birthday. 玛丽隐隐暗示，她生日想要一枚新戒指。

短语zip on，表示“直直向前走”。后面跟上地点状语，表示直直向...快速走去。原文zip on home，也即快走回家，home用作地点状语，表示“家的方向”。在续写中，我们可以用它来替代其他同学都会写的go somewhere。

zip的现在分词为zipping，过去式、过去分词形式为zipped，在写作的时候勿要写错哦。
